They Buthchered "I Am Legend"!! GORE, GORE of one of my top books!!

If you didn't know there is a "I am legend" movie. I had watched this movie as a child and i remember thinking something was off but i couldn't put my finger on it.
Now that i have read the book in full i can see all the ways the movie is so SO different from the book

I understand books can be inspiration for movies and some artistic liberties are taken to cut the book down while retaining it's emotion BUT DEAR LORD THEY BUTCHED MY SON

There is difference in the time it's set in, this is excusable but there's a certain type of beautiful solitude within the book that's lost in the movie. In the book our main man Robert spends all his time reading, listening to classical music on vinyl, drinking and smoking. In the movie he spends his time.....rewatching the "Shrek" movie on his giant fancy flatscreen TV???

In the book is he completely alone for a long long time, we watch him fall apart, cry like a baby, sit next to the graves of his loved ones and yearn for any kind of contact at all. In the movie he has a pet dog throughout the entire process. Now don't get me wrong he does end up getting a dog in the book but it's not cute, this dog is just like him, hurt, paranoid, badly injured and once he gets the dog...well it dies within a week.

In summary the book follows Robert in a world with evolving intellegent vampires that make you question whether they are so bad and we follow Roberts decent into madness and monterousness while he deperately tries to find a cure so that he feels like he has a purpose in life, it's a mental battle of wanting to survive, being mentally toruted and going through debilitating greif.

Whiel the movie focuses on a heroic almost charming Robert who is fighting off monsters that seem more like mindless zombies, they turned the story into an action movie with a heroic sacrific at the end
